About the Role

● Be a productive member of SCNTR’s senior staff
● Maintain a nonviolent lifestyle by embracing the philosophy
● Oversee the day to day function of the Nonviolence Street Outreach Team
● Available to be On call 24/7 for violence related incidents - scheduled
● Create and implement daily outreach and schedules directed towards proven- risk individuals in various locations, to specific groups or assigned clients
● Broker services for clients through coordination and referrals within SCNTR and other agencies
● Provide support, overall problem-solving assistance and advocacy on behalf of SCNTR clients
● Maintain a small client caseload – based on SCNTR Risk Assessment
● Help to create client database system
● Ensure proper and current client information in SCNTR Database
● Submit paperwork and reports as required by SCNTR and Funding Sources
● Maintain intake, assessment, and referral system for all Street Outreach Service Clients
● Develop individual service plan to meet client needs
● Maintain high quality communication with SCNTR and partners
● Plan and execute a system of assessment and evaluation for Street Outreach Services, under the guidelines of the SCNTR’s program Logic Model and implementation plan and in collaboration with other SCNTR programs
● Ensure that all Street Outreach Services grant compliance and reporting requirements are met, as well as applicable state laws and policies
● In conjunction with senior management, develop the program budget, participate in strategic planning, including grant writing and fundraising as needed, for the future growth of the program
● Participate in SCNTR activities, events and tasks as needed from time to time
● Engage in other duties as a member of the Center’s Leadership Team

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required (Case Management or some college preferred)

  • Experience in youth development

  • Submit to a full intense background check

  • A valid driver’s license, registered and insured vehicle required

  • Experience working with “Proven/High risk” individuals

  • Ability to work on a diverse team

  • Conflict Resolution skills required

  • Submit to an extensive background check, involving a community and law enforcement check

  • Willingness to work on the street and in other unstructured situations

  • Comfortability with computer programs such as WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK, GMAIL, and Communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to work with and manage in a diverse organization with staff that have various skill levels

  • Ability to work creatively and independently

  • A high level of energy and desire to aggressively sustain SCNTR’s work

  • Willing to work late and on weekends as needed to ensure the success of the overall department andof SCNTR

About the Company

The mission of the Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth, & Reconciliation (SCNTR) is to partner with institutions to promote love, the establishment of justice, and build the Beloved Community. The Center is committed to transforming and healing the root causes of physical, political, psychological, environmental, economic and racial violence at personal, family, community and systemic levels.
SCNTR seeks an experienced service provider, who is creative, a self-starter, and tireless advocate to be the Center’s first Manager of Street outreach Services. The will establish quality Street Outreach service standards rooted in nonviolence and trauma-informed practices and principles. This position offers the right individual an opportunity to impact the future of a vibrant and critical community organization. The manager will work closely with the Executive Director, Director of Violence Intervention, Manager of Victim Services, the program consultant, and other staff members of SCNTR to implement a violence reduction strategy, based on a nationally recognized framework and program design.

The Manager of Street Outreach Services (MSOS) oversees the day to day 24/7 operation of The Nonviolence Street Outreach Team (NSOT). The NSOT is comprised of individuals that utilize their understanding and familiarity with street dynamics of youth crews and gangs, in ways that help gather information, understand a conflict’s dynamics, control rumors, reduce retaliation, prevent conflict from erupting, communicate nonviolent messages to active crew members, and when possible connect them to positive skill-based and mentoring outlets, as well as to educational and employment opportunities.

The MSOS is an exempt full-time position and maintains an on-call schedule and adheres to strict protocols and policies. Long nights and weekends are not uncommon, as violence routinely occurs outside of “normal” business hours. The MSOS needs to have the skills to operate in many different settings and be able to build trusting relationships with individuals that may be susceptible to violence and operate in sensitive settings. The ideal candidate will have experience with supervising a diverse team, have knowledge of the groups and individuals engaged in violence in Selma and Selmont. Professional skill sets, and various knowledge on violence intervention practices or community building principles will be needed as well.

All SCNTR staff members are trained in MLK’s Nonviolence Theory and the program’s logic model. It is the expectation that all SCNTR staff members constantly are studying and practicing living a nonviolent lifestyle.
