Mary Carter is an AmeriCorps VISTA. she was born in Selma, AL on January 22 to Dianne and Charles Carter at 5:06 am at Vaughn Regional Medical Center. She is the sixth of seven children, 3 boys and 4 girls. When she was 4 years old her family and she moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. She stayed up north for about 3 years before coming back to Selma.

When she was 16 years old her interest of becoming a nurse started to take effect and she looked forward to making this dream come true. As she entered 11th grade at Dallas County High, she entered the medical program. During her 11th and 12th grade year, she was very motivated to make sure her grades were up to standard so that she could complete the class. In April of 2006, just a month before she was about to graduate high school she had taken her State test and passed it. She was a C.N.A!!

When she was 22, she had her first child. His name is Marquel. (now 8). She wanted to focus on her child at that time so when she was 23, she went back to college and obtained her Associates in Criminal Justice. When she was 28 she had her second child. Her name is Malaysia (now 18 months). Her children and her mother are the reason that she is who she is today. They bring her so much joy. She truly feels blessed!!

She has a few more things that she wants to accomplish in life before she turns a certain age, but she is a strong believer, and she knows that she can do all things through Christ that strengthens her!
