UPDATE:
MLK Youth Day Goes Virtual to Fight COVID-19
Selma, AL - The Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth, and Reconciliation (SCNTR) announced Tuesday that the MLK Youth Day event planned for Saturday, January 15th, 2022 will take place virtually to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The event, originally planned to take place at the Historic Riverfront Park as a part of the MLK Weekend activities, planned a day of engagement opportunities for youth. Now, because of the switch to virtual, content will now be available on the SCNTR’s Facebook and Instagram pages throughout the entire day that can be viewed and shared on demand. The decision was made amid the rising spikes in COVID-19 and the Omicron Variant.
Drew Glover, Senior Community Organizer at the SCNTR, has said that the event planned to connect youth to organizations around Selma, AL is still planning to be a success. “Even though we won’t be able to be together in person, it doesn't change the need for youth to be involved in the community,'' Glover said. “We are creating an opportunity for young folks to get involved and help achieve the vision of Selma 2030 and the creation of the Beloved Community.”
Participants are encouraged to follow the SCNTR on Facebook (@scntr) and Instagram (@selma_scntr) to stay up to date on what is happening, and to get entered to win a drawing for prizes and other awesome stuff.
